***Latest Updates *** (as of Sept 14, 2005)************
(posted Sept 14, 2005)
There will be pre-race check-in Friday night.
• Pre-race check-in will also include a DJ from 6pm - 9pm as well as a raffle of prizes to include bike helmets, PFDs, T-Shirts, gift certificates and much more. Each racer will also receive a free dinner.
• There will be a 45 minute time penalty for not completing the rappel challenge.
• To assist in race planning; There is only one official race transition area which is located at the Swayback trailhead. The run and the bike will start and finish from here. You will be allowed to leave one gear bag at this location during the race for transition purposes. Gear bags and bikes will be transported back to the finish at Goldstar park after the biking is completed. Whatever you take with you after the biking portion on your way down to the kayak/canoe leg will remain with you until you arrive at Goldstar park.
Note: The boat leg ends at Goldstar park where you transition to the final run portion. You can choose to leave more equipment at the boat take-out or anywhere else but race organizers are not liable for any equipment left at any point other than the official transition area.
(posted Sept 2, 2005)
The course layout will be as follows:
• 3.7 mile run on Swayack Trail
• 6.5 mile mountain bike on Swayback Trail
• 1 mile run from MTB transition to kayak/canoe course
• 7 mile kayak/canoe down the Coosa river
Note: Canoes/2-man-sit-on-top kayaks will be available on a first come/first serve basis. Due to logistics, we will not be accepting specific boat type requests.
• 1 mile run through Wetumpka finishing at Goldstar Park
Challenge Details:
Several challenges will be revealed at racetime, but we would like to give details of two challenges that generate the most questions.
Rappel - !!! IMPORTANT !!! - Rappel Guidelines
The rapel is down a slanted rockface above the Coosa River (see pictures on "2004 pics" page).
• Safety will be strictly enforced and controlled.
• There is no prior experience required.
• Only one team member is reqiured to do the rappel, but in a change from the past, teams won't know until they arrive at the challenge which team member will perform the challenge. This will be decided by a luck of the draw process
• In a major change, no kayaks/canoes will be allowed in the water at the base of the rappel, all boats need to remain in the launch area until the rapelling team member returns from the rapel challenge.
• There will be a 45 minute time penalty for not completing the challenge.
Tire Change - Once again the tire change will be included
• All teams must have a tire pump or other inflation method.
• For those with tubeless tires, wheelsets will be made available to complete the challenge
